In 1965 the London Borough of Southwark, as we now know it, was formed when the former metropolitan boroughs of Bermondsey, Southwark and Camberwell were merged. It has a population of approximately 288,300 and around 120,400 households.
Parts of the Borough, such as the area around London Bridge, have some of the oldest architecture in London and unsurprisingly there are many listed buildings. The borough is currently undergoing a period of great change and major projects are underway in many areas such as Camberwell, Elmington and the Wooddene Estate.
The main areas in Southwark are: Brunswick Park, Camberwell Green, Cathedrals, Chaucer, College, East Dulwich, East Walworth, Faraday, Grange, Livesey, Newington, Nunhead, Peckham, Peckham Rye, Riverside, Rotherhithe, South Camberwell, South Bermondsey, Surrey Docks, The Lane and Village.
Lyondale Planning and Architecture has an excellent knowledge of the London Borough of Southwark and has completed various projects, both large and small, on sites including residential, commercial and retail in this location.
Southwark Planning & Conservation Areas
Conservation areas are sites of historical or architectural importance. Building and redevelopment can be a more complex process due to more planning regulations and constraints applying within such areas. However our highly trained staff have the expertise to address more challenging planning and design issues. We achieve the aims of our clients both on an aesthetic and functional level whilst adhering to regulations set out by the local planning authority.
