Dartford Borough Council History

The Borough of Dartford, situated in the north-western region of Kent, England, is a local government district. Its administrative center is located in the town of Dartford, and it is a constituent of the continuous urban area of London. Dartford shares its boundaries with the borough of Gravesham to the east, the Sevenoaks District to the south, the London Borough of Bexley to the west, and the Thurrock unitary authority in Essex to the north, spanning across the River Thames.

This borough was established on April 1, 1974, through the amalgamation of the Municipal Borough of Dartford, the Swanscombe Urban District, and a portion of the Dartford Rural District. According to the 2011 Census, the population stood at 97,365, a number that increased to 116,800 in the 2021 census.
