Haringey History
In 1965, the three districts of Hornsey, Wood Green, and Tottenham, originally part of Middlesex, were unified to establish the London Borough of Haringey.
During the 19th century, significant development occurred in the region, culminating in the construction of Alexandra Palace, primarily intended for public entertainment. However, a mere seven days after its inauguration in 1873, the palace suffered a devastating fire. Reconstruction efforts were postponed for more than a century, with the palace finally reopening in 1975, affectionately referred to as “Ally Pally” today. Notable recent developments in Haringey include the transformation of Tottenham Green in 2013/14.
